Well, I know it's been a while since anything menaingful was posted here. And today's post is no exception to the trend... well maybe sorta...

I finally got confirmation.... I'm now the proud new owner of a Permanent Full Time position. Oddly, this is actually the SAME position where I've been TEMPORARY Full Time for the past few months...

"So why is this so exciting then?" you may ask yourself... You may not, but this is MY blog, and in my hypothetical world, you're asking yourself that very question. So I'll tell you. It's because Permanent FT employees get slightly more inclusive benefits, paid days off for Stats (as Part Timer doing a TEMP FT position, I'm still technically Part Time, and thus get paid a percentage on each paycheque instead of the actual stat days AND I still have to take the stats off, meaning the money's about the same in the long run, but every 2 or 3 paycheques, I'm "missing a day" and thus that cheque is smaller... sucks for budgeting among other reasons...) It also means i get to lock in this schedule as a full timer for as long as I want it (months/years/whatever).

But I suppose that still doesn't fully explain why this is so exciting... Well, here's the full story...

On Wednesday Sep 28, the posting went up for the job. Postings always go up Wednesday afternoons and come down the following Wednesday at 4pm. At about 5pm on the 28th, I filled out the application form for internal postings at the hospital and faxed it in (because that's how they want the apps - by fax only).

After that, it was just a matter of waiting to see if anyone with more seniority than me (and who was qualified) applied as well.

Wednesday Oct 5 rolled around and the posting came down. This is when I started to get excited, because I'd find out (probably by that Friday) if I got it or not... Then Thursday happens. My supervisor was at her station next to mine, reading through her emails. Suddenly, she turns to me and asks if I actually applied. "Of course I did" I responded....

Turns out HR (Human Resources) only had one applicant (not me) who wasn't able to qualify on a technicality because it was a local (this site only) posting. They were asking if she wished to re-post it regionally (at which point the applicant would qualify). That's about when I pulled my copy (I ALWAYS keep copies) of the application out of my bag, complete with my logged time and date when I faxed it originally.

My supervisor contacted HR again to let them know that my application was in fact submitted, that THEY lost it, and that she was sending mine over to them herself, so get going processing it...

Which she did. So then Friday comes. Before a long weekend. My supervisor usually leaves around 4pm each day, so as you can imagine, I was pretty much freakign out by 4 on Friday, since she hadn't said anything about it yet, and of course I'm still wondering if HR is going to come up with some lame excuse not to process my application "because it's late" ... wouldn't be the first time this has happened to me...

Anyhow, on her way out the door, she pulls me aside to let me know that she's discussed it all with our Manager, and were still waiting on paperwork from HR to make it official; however, they are already starting the paperwork to post the Part Time position that I currently own... Which they can really only do if I GET the Full Time job... So that was good news, but it wasn't "written in stone" just yet (that only happens once HR does their thing with it). So, at least it was SOME reassurance going into a 3-day weekend.

The weekend: Turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey turkey Yum!

Tuesday; today! About 2 hours after getting to work, my supervisor pulls me into her office to officially offer me the posting, which I gladly accepted! It even resulted in some fiddling with the schedule over the next few months to make the holidays I wanted in November work (no unpaid time off now), as well as some schedule optimizing around christmas (where I'll get to work xmas AND Boxing Day.. essentially just over 5 days' pay for 2 days' work! woohoo!)

Anyhoo, that's my mini-saga. glad it's over and even more glad I got the job! Yay me!
